Mission Statement
The Fast Break Club supports the University of Oregon Women's Basketball Program by building a beneficial relationship between the program and the community. The Fast Break Club works to enhance communication among fans, coaches and players, seeks to raise the level of knowledge and support for Oregon Women's Basketball, and is committed to raising funds for the Women's Basketball Program to support competition at the highest levels of national and conference play.
What is the Fast Break Club?
The Fast Break Club was formed in the mid 1980's to support the U of O Women's Basketball program. Through the years the club has been able to support the program in many ways.
Our current goal is to fully endow the Teresa Smith Women's Basketball Scholarship Endowment Fund started in 2003. A fully endowed scholarship costs $150,000 and to date you have helped us raise over $127,000 towards that goal. We are committed to raising money toward this scholarship. This means that any money the club raises above the cost of operating expenses will be put toward this scholarship fund and the Women's Basketball program.
As the Fast Break Club continues to grow you will see us continuing to seek innovative ways to fund-raise. We now have Bingo at all home games which is an excellent source. We're conducting a "Duck Stuff Sale" at the open practice in Mac Court. We are also exploring the possibility of holding an auction during a tournament open to the general public. In addition, we are working to build partnerships with key businesses in our local community to assist us. Full City Coffee Roasters has stepped up to the plate and we thank them for their generous support.
Besides community sponsors we have been receiving individual scholarship donations from Fast Break Club members. As the word gets out more people and organizations will have an opportunity to contribute and our dream of endowing a scholarship becomes that much closer to becoming a reality.
The Fast Break Club also holds post-game socials for its members, coaches and players. Visiting team coaches have spoken and interacted with members at the socials and Oregon coaches have outlined game strategy at pre-game chalk talks. All of this to enhance the knowledge base and lines of communication and between the Fast Break Club members and the women's basketball program. Read more about our FBC events here.
